Website Optimization for beginners - or Seven Steps to Heaven Website

Web optimization is the process or rather series of processes that, when there will also ensure that the site is viewed by people who need to see your customers. Many companies will seek out companies that have experience in this field to optimize their site. Most load large amounts of money to get your website promoted in the championship still going to keep you there. Yet most of the techniques and processes used are relatively simple to make and given the right level of commitment, a continuous program of 'maintenance' will keep your site there. This paper is all about how you can get your site on the top list of search engines and stay there.

The web is constantly changing and new ideas such as blogging and social networking and other so-called Web 2.0 techniques are constantly being introduced. (For those of us who are perhaps not aware of Web 2.0 is the next version of the Internet, but rather a collection of tools and techniques that are now used on the Internet, two of which I mentioned above). Companies like Google, MSN, Yahoo and others are always looking for ways to increase revenue. And the way the search and index websites on their own database changes frequently. This means that unless you keep up to maintain the position of your website, you will fall in the rankings.

It describes seven major steps that should be taken into account in order to optimize your site. However, before you start, you know how many visitors you get to your website now? No? Well, this is an important initial step in what will not be able to see the effect of the optimization strategy and will not be able to adjust the program in time, as it is not known what works. Therefore you must be able to monitor not only the visitors of the site, but rather visitors to each page, how long they stay there and to measure the bounce. This can be done very simply by using Google Analytics. They produce a code that you can cut and paste into each page of your website and then you will be able to receive regular reports on the number of visitors and more. Learn more about Google Analytics can be found on the Google website, where you will also find many other useful tools to help you.

So now the seven stages:

Step 1. Keywords

Keywords are the words used by customers to search for a product or service on the Internet. You have to wonder what their customers want to look for when buying our product. What to look for? Many times this is not just a word but often a phrase or series of words.

For example, you can be a publican looking to bring in additional trade. You are in Sussex so you might think that your keywords can be "pubs in Sussex." This is quite adequate and will appear in a search among the thousands of other pubs in Sussex. However it is recommended to attract a particular type of customers as they use good quality food and you are a gastropub. So you may consider "gastropubs in Sussex", as best keywords for your purposes and has the advantage of being highly targeted. This means you get higher in a smaller group in the lists of search engines.

A thorough search of the keyword types of words and phrases that best fit your business and your customers use, will allow you to climb the first rung of the ladder optimization. To help you to a free e-book on keyword research can be obtained from the following site http://learn.wordtracker.com/ebooks/keyword-research-guide. All major search engines offer (usually) free statistics keyword to allow to understand the most popular words or phrases used when searching for your products or services. Through Overture, the statistics for a number of search engines can be obtained. However it should be noted that 87% of all searches use Google as a search engine. There are also websites and software downloads (many of them are freeware) that will help you choose your keywords and provide alternatives.

When you search on keywords to remember that not all of us typists. Sometimes we make mistakes with spelling or typing, and this passes through the search engine. Normally there will be a 'document not found' message, or Google, in particular, it will return a 'Did you mean' alternative message. Using some errors in spelling, such as keywords that will be found and this will maximize your chances of a new customer. Typical examples can be no slaes sales startegy or no strategy.

Before leaving this step, however, a word or two on how many keywords you should have. Opinion among professionals is variable, but it is believed that up to about 10 or so key words or phrases would be sufficient for many purposes. If you can only come with 7 or 8, do not worry, this will be fine as long as you use those words in your copy (text) on the site.

Step 2. Title tags and meta tags

When you visit a website you've ever wondered how to get the words at the top of the title and how it changes for each page? The answer is the title tag. These are part of the meta tags and are "behind the page" words or phrases intended to describe the page content for search engines and web browsers.

When you first get a website designer normally put a little ', if not all of this for you. But if you have access to content through a Content Management System (CMS) you can just do it yourself. It is not necessary for the coding, as most accept the English language.

Search engines seek content. However, most of the persons to put their company name as the title tag. If you are not a very well-known businesses such as Coca Cola will not find as many will look for you by name. If you need to include your name put at the end of the title tag. The title tag should tell a researcher what the site is about so if you're a 'Sussex pub that serves food,' enter this as the title tag. Some organizations just put a set of keywords with commas separating them as title tag, which is perfectly acceptable.

Meta tags are basically a list of all the keywords or phrases that were previously decided. However, it is essential that these are also used in the copy (text) appearing on the web page to which it is associated.

Meta Description Tag appears immediately below the title in the search engines. So it's important that you can briefly describe in few words what the website or specific page is all about. This ensures that someone looking for your product and service will see immediately that this is what you can provide.

Generally these areas are available if you have access to the content management system that allows you to update and maintain your website. If you do not talk to the web designer / hoster on how you can do this.

Step 3. Content

There are two aspects of content that will help you keep your web site or near the top of the listings. One is the relevance of the content and the other is the frequency with which it is changed or added.

The content should include as many of keywords and phrases that you have decided to use that are relevant to that page. The repetition of keywords is also acceptable, but not if the copy does not make sense to the reader, because the purpose of this page or website is to communicate with customers and prospects. Google in particular has strict rules regarding the use of keywords in content. For example, does not allow white on white Keywords in other words, hidden keywords that are white on a white background.

Update content regularly is also an important aspect of this phase. Google and other sites to record changes each time they send their crawlers or spiders. If yours is one that changes regularly, you may have noticed more and then go up the list of search engines. Updating content does not necessarily mean rewriting the page or site every few weeks. Adding a news feed, for example, can be extremely useful to increase your profile. Testimonials, case studies and white papers are also useful in this context. As visitors to return again and again because of additional useful content helps to increase traffic, which is also recognized by search engines.

Step 4. Google Ad Words and landing pages

Google AdWords and similar techniques have become an important tool for e-marketing. There are important benefits to be had for this type of marketing. In the first place can be narrowly targeted to the audience you want to attract. The second is that the budget for this type of marketing is controllable, may be limited, but can be a great success, making the acquisition cost of customers very low. Thirdly, can help improve your rankings in the organic search.

For the rest of this passage, I will speak with Google AdWords, in particular, but the messages relate to other search engines and keep in mind that 87% of all Internet searches are done with Google.

For those not familiar with these adwords are usually small pieces of text with a link to the site that appear on the right side of the search page. They are contextual ads are served according to search terms used. If we take our pubs in Sussex and someone tries to "pub in Sussex" Our ads will appear at the right (usually) of the page because we have chosen these words as our keywords and tenders which are suitable for the keyword. In cases where the ad appears in the column of similar ads will depend on the value that we offer for the words. The price of these words can vary from a few cents depending on how popular they are £ s. However you may be limited to a small amount per day so that the budget is overstretched and this is an ideal method of test marketing your favorite keywords. You will only pay for the keyword, once the prospect has clicked through to your website. There is no charge only to appear on the search page.

Many organizations offer a number of keywords to each ad and also have different ads for different subjects. They link this with landing pages on your website so that the perspective on the link here is taken of its contents. This also means that you can monitor your ad performance by measuring the number of unique visits made to the landing page, especially if you use a tool like Google Analytics (see above).

The purpose of these adwords is to promote your site to get rankings in the organic search (as opposed to 'paid' section.) It 'a very effective method to get more people to your site. Google also provide help to users the first time and help you improve your click through ratios for those who are more experienced.

Step 5. Links

Search engines like links! In theory, the more connections, the better. However, this can also be a dangerous strategy. There are link farms that if you sign up will reciprocal links. They will provide you with hundreds if not thousands of links in exchange for your link to add to the list. Looks like a great solution is not it? Well Google and others do not like because there is little or no relevance to your site, its themes and subjects.

Links, however, are still important. Firstly there are internal links on your site linking to another page or navigation links. Try to avoid the link 'click here', which is much less satisfactory than using a password to connect to the new page. Also make sure you provide links to testimonials, case studies etc. for more detailed information on this topic.

Then there are external links. There are several types of links that will be explored. You could have links with preferred suppliers, with trade associations or with other companies that have a synergistic product or service offerings. For example, a manufacturer of wedding cake could link to a photographer. Then there are directories of companies that in turn connect to your site as part of their overall package. In every newsletter you send your customers to ensure that there are links to the web site, perhaps to a page with a more detailed explanation of the subject material. Then there's blogging. We'll go into this in more detail later, but blogging is a kind of diary or reflections on the line of the blogger. Depending on the area you are located you can invite feedback from readers, or you can just put your thoughts down and their link to the site. This is good to discuss market trends, technical failures or any other person that the industry or the market may be interested

Finally there are articles or white papers. How can they be used for links, I here you say? Well there's the obvious in including links to the same document and send it to customers, potential customers, business contacts and so on. However there are opportunities to have white papers or technical papers distributed more widely. With the amazing growth of the Internet explosion came just as substantial a request for information. There are many websites out there that specialize in particular areas and are always hungry for information. With this came a number of companies, whose sole purpose is to receive and distribute articles, technical articles and press releases around the world. This offers great opportunities to have links to your site on a large number of other sites. However, it is necessary to ensure that the content is original and interesting, and be careful not to have it distributed by many companies as the repetition does not necessarily improve your chances of your article to be taken. Some of these companies will distribute your article for free but others charge for their service. A typical example in particular for entrepreneurs is Articles Ezine, but you must ensure that anyone to use, whether paid or free, it suits your business, but still best suited to your market.

Step 6. Blogging

Web logs or blogs are more popularly known as is a recent feature that also helps to raise your profile in search engine listings. They can be part of your site may be hosted elsewhere or link to your site. Recent news may be a form of a blog, but generally is a blog occasional thoughts of entrepreneurs or managers who can elicit direct feedback from the customer. Assuming that this is quite interesting that will help maintain customer loyalty as well as increase traffic. Regular service bulletins may also be a form of blogs.

As with any business decision, you should consider what your goals are, what you gonna do with your blog and destination.

I could provide more detailed here, but I feel that I could cover the subject thoroughly enough compared to the experts. So I'm happy to see a Better Business Blogging in www.betterbusinessblogging.com that has an excellent e-course on the subject.

Step 7. News Feed

News Feeds can be a very time to keep updated on your site. However, this represents a change to your site that search engines identify and this helps to improve your ranking. All useful information, such as new staff, special contracts, new product or service releases, awards and events or special offers are all the news that your customers hear.

RSS feeds are a special tool to allow the news to be automatically served to customers and prospects so you need to make sure you have the news feed RSS function.

There are a number of readers free news feeds, which can be downloaded, allowing you to automatically get updates of news from your favorite sites. Examples of news readers can be found on Google Reader and www.feedreader.com. These can then be configured with the URL of the site you want regular updates and every time a new piece of news is served automatically to your computer. The addition of short reports on a regular basis will do wonders for your search engine ranking.

Finally, there is no point in implementing the seven steps to improve your ranking if your site does not provide your customers with value. It 's important to consider what you want your website to do and those who turn to. There is no point in also for example an entire load of technical data if the goal is to get more customers. Do not tell me, the customer, to provide the benefits of using my 'widgets'. You can provide an added value, including white papers, free information, discount coupons, newsletters, and with the aim of bringing your customers to your site time and again
