Registering domain names for websites

Domain name is the name of a website that exists on the World Wide Web we are able to visit this web site or see its contents in a browser. Each site has a unique name that helps to uniquely identify from other web sites on the Internet. This name can not contain especial characters like%, &, * etc characters in any valid domain name may be

Letters a-z

Numbers: 0-9 and

Hypen "-"

Maximum length of a domain name is only 67 characters including top level domain name. Dash "-" can not be the first or last character. Domain names are not case sensitive ie you can use 'A' or 'a' and both are equally treated.

A domain name must be registered before it becomes available for use. The recording may not be for a period exceeding one year or more than ten years. It takes another two or three days after registering for the domain name to propagate through all the World Wide Web server to ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) is the organization that manages the DNS system. Details of any registered domain name (whois) can be searched to InterNIC, ccTLD domains can be searched uwhois.

Every domain name has an extension like.com. Org,. Edu, etc. know as Top Level Domain (TLD), or Generic Top Level Domain (gTLDs). There are also two other characters, like.us extension. United Kingdom,. Where is known as ccTLDs, or Country Code Top Level Domain.

Domain names are represented internally as a numeric value called IP addresses that are too difficult to learn or remember. The process of linking this numerical value into a string of characters is called Domain Name System. This domain name system translates the name of your registered domain name or web site to its IP address.

Registering the domain name does not mean that you have a website or a space for the loading of a web site. Registration is simple possession of a name for your web site. In order to load the web site or create pages you'll need a hosting service that will provide space for your web pages. Once you get a hosting service, you can point your domain name to that host. Your host will provide two or more numeric string called primary DNS (Domain Name Server) and secondary DNS to be used for the purpose of describing your domain name to your host. Your hosting service may or may not provide the site design service .......
