The Role of Leadership in Business Success

The role of leadership in achieving business success is indisputable. Great leaders create great companies that are "facts" and not "born". Do you know why? True leadership is learned, not automatic. To answer the question of whether leaders are born or made, great theorist, Mr. Bass, Bass postulated the whole theory of leadership time (1989 and1990). He said there are three theories of leadership.

First, the trait theory, which says that certain personality traits may lead people naturally into leadership roles. Secondly, Theory Big Event, which believes that a crisis or important event may cause a person to rise to the occasion. Third, transformational theory, which says that people can choose to become leaders and learn the skills of leadership. This third theory is the basis for this article.

In other words, is not an excuse to say they are waiting to identify the characteristics of leadership before they can become a leader or wait for a crisis to arise before taking a leadership role as the Big Event Theory says, but you choose to become a leader of learning leadership skills as the Transformational Theory predicts.

You see, we are all born with leadership potential wrapped up in us. But it is our responsibility to develop, nurture, and birth out. Not just left alone. It requires your attention to its development and it is on you the choice to become a leader.

A philosopher once said that there are five domains of leadership: self-leadership, bringing another person, who leads a group leader of an organization or business, and, finally, to lead a nation. If you look critically at the five areas listed above, you can clearly see the progressions that have been submitted to become a leader. You can not lead others speak less to drive an organization if you can not drive.

All that your business is today and tomorrow everything will be due on your state of leadership in directing the course of business. As Warren Bennis, a leadership expert said, "A business short on capital can borrow money and with a poor location can move, but a business short on leadership has little chance of survival."

What is leadership? What does being a leader? And as a leader and leadership impact the business or organization? Let's start looking at the definition of leadership. Leadership is an influence relationship between leaders and followers who intend real changes and outcomes that reflect their shared purposes.

Leadership involves influence, which occurs between people, people intentionally want significant changes, and changes reflect purposes shared by leaders and followers. An important aspect of leadership is influence others to come together around a common vision. Thus, a leader is a visionary who influence, motivate, communicate, and encourages followers to do what they can not normally be prepared to do it themselves.

The impact of leadership in building a successful business is pretty huge. First, leaders make things happen --- They are the catalyst for business success, but to challenge the status-quo are vision-driven, think differently. Secondly, leaders manage through periods of change --- They determine the direction, are goal-setter and getter target, move organizations from where they are to where they should be. And third, leaders are revolutionaries --- We face reality and mobilize adequate resources, but to encourage others to do the same, but leave an imprint that can not be deleted.
